When I had diarrhea recently, the nurse told me that applesauce was helpful, but fruits (except banana) and fruit juices were to be avoided because of the laxative effect. And I know independently that apples and apple juice are both laxatives. What happens to make apple sauce not a laxative? It’s just apple bits floating in apple sauce.

Good question – I would not recommend applesauce for diarrhea. I have no idea what their logic. It makes no sense.

the nurse is actually right. Applesauce contains pectin, the food stabilized. It increases the volume of stool. For more information about it, look here http://en. wikipedia. org / wiki / pectin
