apple trees
Welcome to Apple Trees, this site is fanatical about anything to do with apples and apple trees. Our fanaticism started when we planted our dwarf apple tree in our small back garden. Gradually, this became an obsession and to cut a long story short, we bought some land and started our own orchard.

To say our apple trees are our passion would be an understatement. We will be gradually adding lots of photos and apple trees articles, including growing apple tree guides, guide on dwarf apples trees, apple recipes, apple tree growing and much more!

You will be able to buy apple trees here also! Apple trees for sale around the UK will be listed, as will review guides and how to buy apple trees.

Why is it when they build big plazas they cut down big trees, when they could have left them in the parking lot? (they plant tiny trees anyways) so what’s the point of cutting the big ones down?

AND ALSO, what’s the reason they sometimes on old plazas and near offices, they cut down mature trees and plant tiny ones?

Large trees could fall and bust something, the chance of property damage and the difficulty in building around large growth is too high for most developers to rationalize (read: money). Its much easier to put in cute little shrubbery that is easily managed.

I like large trees as much as the next person, yet the sad truth is that cost sheets rule the way our land gets developed.

because they’re idiots thats why!! tree’s are gorgeous and i’d rather look at a tree than a big shopping centre.

so many animals die when they demolish forests etc.

One of the biggest reasons for cutting down an older tree in most commercial and public settings is that an older tree is just that, old. Trees do have a life span. Also, if the tree is big enough, its root system may pose a danger to interfering with what the space is used for, as in the case of the parking lot you mentioned. So they plant a smaller tree, which is now more controllable. Remember, a tree’s root system extends as deep and wide as the tree is tall and wide. Said trees may also interfere with sewer, electrical, water, etc. . . lines, or has the potential to do so in the future. I know how you feel, I hate small trees too and prefer to see larger ones. But hey. . . .

Jeff the Drunk is correct on most points with the exception of his description of tree roots. Roots are generally in the top 3 feet of soil and do extend up to three times the width of the canopy.

The main reason that trees are removed is because engineers, developers, etc are ignorant about trees. Yes, trees are typically damaged during construction – but they don’t have to be. Yes, roots are torn up during construction – but they don’t have to be. Yes, it is easier to remove everything and start with a fresh slate – but the fact is that with a little bit of foresight and thought trees can be protected during construction and preserved.

More people need to hire certified arborists and consulting arborists and include them in the planning and design process! Communities can adopt municipal ordinances that protect mature trees, so talk to your mayor and/or councilpersons! If your community doesn’t have a city or urban forester tell them to hire one.

What drunk Jeff says is often true but often they just don’t want to work around them. Its easier for the bulldozer to just rip them out of the way.

A lot of good reasons have been cited, and I can add that large trees obscure the view of the shops that reside there, an important consideration in retail and business space.
