My fiance and I are buying a house, we are just waiting to find out out the closing date right now, but we have a huge yard and i’m wanting to start a garden.I haven’t had much experience with gardening, so I would need some good hardy plants or flowers. We live in Tahlequah, OK which is about an hr or so southeast of Tulsa OK, so I think zone 6? The house also faces the south I believe if that helps any
thanks

Wait till early spring. Then all your local nurseries will get in fresh 2012 plant, tree and grass items. Anything you’d buy now would be pretty much left over things and the cold will prevent them from properly rooting.
If you have flower beds or know where you want to establish them, you can put in metal or stone demarcation lines and fill the beds with compost and some organic fertilizer, till it all in and let it sit till spring. Then you will have good beds ready to go.

Well. ! Congratulations ! If you buy plants from a nursery it s better to plant them either early morning or in the evening . As far as seed sowing is concerned you’d better keep the seeds in sunlight for a day or two, then sow them in a pot ! Hope this helps ! Happy gardening. . !!
