Well if you dont mind growing them from young plants the japanese maple is a very pretty and great tree for any yard. They are fairly inexpensive as young plants but get more expensive the older the tree is.

Generally, the younger the tree, the cheaper it is.
Go to any Home Depot/Lowes/Menards and have a look at the trees they keep outside. They generally keep the more expensive trees inside so that they can lock them up at night.
You’ll find lots of trees to choose from.

I don’t know your taste. . . BUT when you do find the tree you like you had better check to see what the root system will do, and does the tree drop leaves resulting in everyone else in your neighborhood with the same trees? A friend of mine planted a silk tree in her yard, now everyone in the neighborhood has them, it also cracked her sidewalks. . . . .

My brother-in-law works with a person who receives free trees each year. He gave me four trees last year. I got a rosebud(?), dogwood, some other tree that flowers, and a pine tree – the pine tree didn’t make it, but the other three are very healthy. I’m not sure if the co-worker gets his trees from the Arbor Day Foundation, but it must be something similar.
