McIntosh apples are grown on genetically identical trees. These are produced by grating a piece of a McIntosh tree on to the stem of another apple tree that can better withstand our Canadian climate. If you take a McIntosh apple and plant the seeds in it, they will not grow into McIntosh-producing trees. Why?
