I would hazard a guess and say it would take a minimum of 3 years before a seed grown tree would produce apples. Apple trees are not generally grown from seed these days. They are grafted. Which means that a branch from a parent tree is grafted onto the root-stock of a different tree (usually [...]
If you just clean it off it should work fine, but if you are trying to get an apple tree with apples similar to what you have, you aren’t very likely to get it. Apples are heterozygous and won’t replicate true from seed. You will likely get a crab apple.
I took a few seeds and planted them from an apple tree that is not a hybrid or some strange conventionally farmed tree. It is completely normal. How can I care for it and if it does sprout will it be the same type of apple?
I have a pot and dirt and an apple seed. I want to put the seed in the dirt to try to grow a tree. If the seed starts to grow and I take it outside next spring, will it mess things up?
