I live in Southern California and would like to plant perhaps peaches, apricots, apples, lemons perhaps tomatoe vines etc. I would like to have fruit by spring, is this possible? I may start with just one and see how it goes. What tree is the best to start with?

I’ve seen farmers burn leaves and grass under tropical fruit trees (mango, avocado, etc), they say the smoke accelerates the flowering process. I’ve searched and couldn’t find any info why, if this is true.
I just realized that we ordered DWARF fruit trees (apple, peaches, plums) from an online garden supply. Will these trees have a long life and produce a lot of fruit? I dont want to invest time in fruit trees that are more ornamental.
