i am making carmel apples this weekend and i need help.

I made carmel apples using the little cube caramels for my cousins and the carmel was so hard it was like eating rocks.. any tips?

The professional equipment for caramel apples is waay too expensive ($250+) and I found these crock pots for 4 dollars each at Target. If they a crock pot can’t be used, do you have any other suggestions for equipment?
