I keep hearing that acidity and sugar in Apples and Oranges fresh or in fruit juice form, can harm your teeth. Is that true? It seems like EVERYthing is harmful these days!
I want to give up drinking fizzy drinks but I don’t like tea, coffee or milk but am told drinking juice is no better for me.

Anything will rot your teeth if you don’t brush regularly. Soda is REALLY bad for your teeth even with brushing. Especially Mountain Dew. Keep the apples, toss the soda!

Theoretically yes but practically very low probability as the apple pulp does not stick to the teeth as some of the other sugary stuff, candies, chocolate, resins etc. As you know the fermentation results in acidic chemicals and closer the proximity to the teeth more chances of damage

Hey use ur common sense–sometimes i dont think we have to blindly follow wht every rule of the book says–cos guess wht?? the predictions seem to change every single day–so use some gray matter up there and take one day at a time–its absolutely ok to eat apples so long as its not in a sugery syrupy form, and incidently if its so sweet–u can always brush the sweetness away–even simple gargling wil do-juices esp fresh juices are great–dont add suger and there u have it–u cud also take a pinch of lime and salt and a lil suger grains in them and drink them chilled-whether its lemonade or other orange or apple fruit drinks!! C’et La Vie–enjoy while u have ur teeth-health and a strong mental frame of mind

Well if fruit harms your teeth how come the animal kingdom, have teeth strong enough to rip though raw meat, i think it is just another way of getting us all to worry about every thing we eat. I for one will not stop eating fruit.

Acids can dissolve enamel if they are left in contact with your teeth for long periods of time or when consumed in high amounts.
APPLE TREESAny food that can support fermentation (fruits, grains) can lead to decay of the teeth. We generally encourage people to avoid foods that stick to your teeth and stay there for long periods of time. Have those foods with a normal meal, not as between meal snacks. (cheetos and oreo cookies, for example). The faster a food leaves your mouth, the faster your natural saliva can begin to dilute and neutralize the acids. Your saliva caries calcium in it to help remineralize the teeth. You can also chew gum after an exposure.
An apple or an orange? Better than sucking on hard candies or leaving potato chips stuck all over your teeth. Just keep the acid exposures to a pattern and avoid constant snacking. That’ll keep your acid balance in check.

low acidic fruits do not do much damage but fruits like lemon is very acidic, the citric acid is a good source of vitamin c. The acid when it comes in contact wit enamel which is made up of calcium gets dissolved & etched which makes roughfness of the surface where food particals can get stuck & that is how decay starts. Apples are not that bad.
