apple trees
Welcome to Apple Trees, this site is fanatical about anything to do with apples and apple trees. Our fanaticism started when we planted our dwarf apple tree in our small back garden. Gradually, this became an obsession and to cut a long story short, we bought some land and started our own orchard.

To say our apple trees are our passion would be an understatement. We will be gradually adding lots of photos and apple trees articles, including growing apple tree guides, guide on dwarf apples trees, apple recipes, apple tree growing and much more!

You will be able to buy apple trees here also! Apple trees for sale around the UK will be listed, as will review guides and how to buy apple trees.

I was wondering if it was possible to be allergic to apples but not applesauce because if I eat even a little bit of an apple I have what seems like an allergic reaction. (symptoms of an allergic reaction) I have had this problem since I was young but I’ve never had any problem with applesauce. Is it possible or is there another explanation?

Wow! I have the same issue. For me, I have what is called oral allergy syndrome, where I get hives on my lips, tongue and my throat feels funny/itchy and I feel like I get really bad heartburn. This happens if I eat raw apples, but cooked or processed in any way, they are fine. This is because the proteins present in the apple that trigger my response are denatured (change shape) when cooked and my body no longer reacts badly to them. Peeling them does not help me at all, and if I touch raw apple flesh and then, say, rub my eye, my eye swells up. I have tons of tree allergies and my allergist told me that because of this, I am probably allergic to fruit trees. Fruit trees aren’t pollinated through the air like regular trees, but by insects, so allergy testing for fruit trees is never done. I have the same reactions to fresh cherries, plums, peaches, nectarines, and pears. Give them to me any way but fresh (canned, cooked, etc) and I am fine. I had skin testing done with the fresh fruit, and I did have positive skin tests with them. Funny, I never had allergies or this problem until my early 20s. It sucks because I grew up eating lots of fruit and loved it and it is so hard now because I can’t eat it. As the years have gone by, the reaction has gotten worse and my doctor told me to be careful because it could progress to an anaphylactic reaction. You may want to contact a local allergist if you want skin testing or more information about potential allergies. Everyone thinks I am so weird because this is not a very common problem. Hope this was helpful! Oh, and I did try fruit wash, organic, and peeling them to help but to no avail. I am hopelessly allergic!

Probably something to do with the cooking that destroys some enzyme or something. Apples sometimes give me a stomach ache or a slightly queasy feeling, applesauce or apple pie doesn’t.

i would think it would be due to the chemicals sprayeds on the apples while growing. did u ever try peeling the apples then eating? or also, when u cook apples to make sause, some of the protenes break down, and that could be why u dont get an allergic rection. :) to really find out, llok at the specific types of apple sause and apples u eat and where they come from. :)

Maybe apples have something that applesauce doesn’t. Maybe its because applesauce isn’t really apples.

The skin contains different things than the insides, and yes cooking changes the chemicals sometime.

Yes. It has something to do with the apples in the applesauce being cooked.

Yes, I think. I have a friend who is allergic to a certain protein in the skin of an apple, but not the apple flesh. I think it would mostly depend on what part of the apple you’re allergic to.

Does anyone have history with this? I just read it is the hardest herb to grow. I got some free seeds so I am trying it but it hasn't germinated yet. MJ
