This tree is about 35 years old and where the sprouts have been growing there are big nobs formed from triming them off each spring. These nobs send out several water sprout vertical branches each year. I thought of sawing them off flush with the branch but I’m afraid it will kill the branch since their are so many. I have done it on a few smaller ones and the tree healed the wounds and now no water sprouts grow there. Any suggestions of what I can do to get rid of all of them for good?

There’s a product that is called: “Sucker Stopper RTU” that is made from the plant growth regulator Napthaleneacetate (NAA). This product is widely used in commercial agriculture to prevent suckers and as a thinning agent on fruit trees.
APPLE TREESIt comes in a ready-to-use spray bottle. I’ve used it on my olive trees and it works quite well. Following is a website that discusses the product in detail.
Hope it works for you. Good luck!http://www.montereylawngarden.com/faqs/s…

Hi there, if it was driving me mad then i would just get someone to cut the whole thing down and kill the roots, then plant something really really nice of which i could manage. You could try to cut off all the nobs and hope for the best but it could possibly kill the whole thing but i suppose you could try x
